Factors Affecting Welding Strength in Chain Welding Machine
Welding strength is the core performance index of welded chains, directly determining their bearing capacity, service life and safety in use. In actual production using a chain welding machine, many factors will cause unstable welding strength, such as insufficient fusion, pores, cracks, virtual welding, or uneven hardness. This article summarizes the main factors that affect welding strength and their influence rules.
1. Material Quality of Chain Blank
The raw material itself is the basis of welding strength.
Inconsistent material composition or unqualified carbon content will lead to poor fusion performance.
Surface rust, oil stains, oxide scale and other impurities will cause pores and false welding.
Material hardness is too high, it is easy to produce cracks during the welding process.
Only clean, uniform and standard chain blanks can guarantee stable welding strength.
2. Welding Temperature and Heating Control
Temperature is one of the most critical factors in chain welding.
Temperature is too low: incomplete fusion, weak joint, easy to break.
Temperature is too high: over-burning, grain coarsening, brittle joint, reduced toughness.
Unstable temperature: uneven welding quality, large difference between single links.
The chain welding machine must achieve stable and precise temperature control to ensure full melting without overheating.
3. Pressure and Upsetting Force During Welding
Pressure directly affects the closeness and compactness of the welding interface.
Insufficient pressure: the joint is not dense, there are micro voids, low strength.
Excessive pressure: material extrusion is too large, thin the chain link, reduce effective cross-section.
Unstable pressure: inconsistent welding depth and shape.
Matching pressure and temperature can form a dense and uniform weld structure.
4. Welding Time and Control Accuracy
Welding time includes heating time and holding time.
Short heating time: the end is not fully heated, affecting fusion.
Too long heating time: material oxidation aggravates, joint becomes brittle.
Improper holding time: insufficient crystallization, low structural stability.
Precise time control helps to improve the stability and repeatability of welding strength.
5. Electrode / Induction Coil Condition and Loss
For resistance or induction welding machines:
Electrode wear, poor contact, unstable current output.
Oxide adhesion on the electrode surface, resulting in unstable heating.
Induction coil deviation or damage, uneven heating of chain link ends.
Poor contact and unstable energy input will directly lead to weak welding points.
6. Centering and Positioning Accuracy of Chain Links
If the two ends of the chain link are not aligned accurately:
Welding joint is eccentric, stress concentration is easy to break.
Partial insufficient fusion, local strength is obviously reduced.
Deformation is too large, affecting size and mechanical properties.
High-precision positioning and clamping mechanism is the prerequisite for high-strength welding.
7. Cooling Speed and Post-Welding Treatment
Cooling method affects the microstructure and mechanical properties of the joint.
Too fast cooling: easy to produce hard and brittle structure, poor impact resistance.
Too slow cooling: grain growth, reduced strength.
Lack of post-welding tempering: large residual stress, easy to crack in use.
Appropriate cooling and heat treatment can significantly improve weld toughness and strength.
8. Equipment Stability and Parameter Consistency
Fluctuations in electrical and mechanical properties of the chain welding machine:
Unstable voltage or current, resulting in large temperature difference.
Mechanical action lag, inconsistent pressure and time.
Uncontrolled lubrication and wear of moving parts.
Equipment with high stability can ensure small batch difference and high qualification rate.
Conclusion
The welding strength of chain products is comprehensively affected by material, temperature, pressure, time, positioning, cooling and equipment status. Only by controlling these key factors in a unified way, optimizing parameters and maintaining the chain welding machine in good condition, can we produce high-strength, high-reliability welded chains that meet industrial standards.
